Report: Rockets, Mbah a Moute agree to 1-year minimum contract
Chris Paul may already be doing some recruiting on his new club.
The Houston Rockets have agreed to terms on a one-year veteran's minimum deal with unrestricted free agent Luc Mbah a Moute, league sources told ESPN's Chris Haynes.
Mbah a Moute will earn $2.1 million in salary, with a cap hit of $1.5 million for the Rockets, according to ESPN's Bobby Marks. He turned down his $2.3-million player option for next season with the Los Angeles Clippers so he could test the open market. While his new contract is worth less, Marks indicated the Cameroon native will net more money in Houston due to the lack of state taxes.
The 30-year-old forward spent the last two seasons with the Clippers and provided solid perimeter and low-post defense, while shooting a career-high 39.1 percent from deep in 2016-17. In Houston, he reunites with CP3, who was traded to Clutch City a few weeks ago. He adds even more defensive versatility to a club that already had Trevor Ariza and added UFA P.J. Tucker.
Mbah a Moute has career averages of 6.3 points and 4.2 rebounds in 23.2 minutes per contest over nine seasons split between the Milwaukee Bucks, Sacramento Kings, Minnesota Timberwolves, Philadelphia 76ers, and Clippers.
Los Angeles was reportedly looking into retaining the vet, while the Toronto Raptors were also rumored to be interested in his services.
