Rodman returns from North Korea; trip goes by without incident

Dennis Rodman is back in the United States after his latest trip to North Korea, and nothing of significance appears to have happened during his stay.

On his fifth known visit to the country, Rodman did not meet with its leader, Kim Jong-un, Anna Fifield of The Washington Post reports. In the past, Rodman has called Kim a "very good guy" and a "friend for life."

Here's a rundown of his most recent trip, from Fifield's report:

Rodman visited important Kim-regime monuments, coached a women’s basketball team, and presented gifts to his host, the sports minister, to pass on to Kim Jong-un. They included two autographed basketball jerseys, soap sets, a mermaid jigsaw, and a "Where's Waldo?" book for Kim’s daughter - and a copy of Donald Trump's "The Art of the Deal."

Rodman, who appeared on two seasons of Trump's pre-presidency show "Celebrity Apprentice," was asked shortly after arriving in North Korea whether he was visiting the U.S. adversary as a Trump envoy.

''Well, I'm pretty sure he's pretty much happy with the fact that I'm over here trying to accomplish something that we both need,'' Rodman said.

Of his mission in the fraught country, he explained: "We're trying to bring everything together. ... We're trying to open doors between both countries."

The Hall of Famer didn't speak to reporters waiting for him when he arrived from Pyongyang at Beijing International Airport on Saturday.
