Durant caps 1st title run with Finals MVP

Kevin Durant's first season in the Bay Area couldn't have ended any better, as the four-time scoring champion and former MVP took home Finals MVP honors while collecting his first NBA championship.

Durant, who garnered a storm of criticism after joining the 73-win Golden State Warriors as a free agent last July, responded with one of the all-time great scoring explosions in his first Finals appearance since 2012.

The 28-year-old, 10-year veteran averaged 35.2 points, 8.4 rebounds, 5.4 assists, 1.6 blocks, and one steal on 56-47-93 shooting during Golden State's five-game victory over the Cleveland Cavaliers, scoring at least 31 points in all five contests.

Durant, who capped off his Finals masterpiece with a 39-point performance on 14-of-20 shooting in Game 5, became the first player since Moses Malone in 1983 to win Finals MVP in his first year with a new team.

With 10 career Finals games under his belt, Durant's 32.9 points per game average ranks third, behind only former Warrior Rick Barry and Michael Jordan.
