He said what? Top 10 one-liners of the NBA playoffs
Through nearly two rounds of the NBA playoffs, some of the most memorable moments have come off the court.
Given the general lack of competitiveness and entertaining basketball leading up to the inevitable, it's understandable to look elsewhere for outcomes that aren't so predictable. One place that's had no shortage of drama is the postgame podium, where players and coaches have been bringing their A-games.
Here are some of our favorite quotes from the postseason:
10. "Don't come to my city wearing all black talking about it's a funeral." - John Wall
The Boston Celtics arrived at Verizon Center dressed in all black for the Washington Wizards' funeral Friday night, but Wall wasn't ready to go home. The All-Star point guard pulled up for a deep game-winning 3-pointer to force Game 7 against the Boston Celtics and showed the same bravado and defiance in his message to the C's afterward.
9. "Now you can cry at the crib!" - Marcus Morris
Markieff Morris called Paul Millsap a "crybaby" during their heated first-round series. After the Wizards eliminated the Hawks in six games, Morris' twin brother Marcus took a parting shot at Atlanta's All-Star.
8. "DeRozan scored only ... 8 points? And with just free throws." - Giannis Antetokounmpo
The Milwaukee Bucks phenom was simply reading the box score when he burned his fellow All-Star. That the insult was unintentional somehow makes it better.
7. "He's dirty, a dirty player." - Draymond Green
Green called Kelly Olynyk "dirty" and said he doesn't respect the Celtics big man, who yanked Kevin Love's shoulder out of place two years ago and, more recently, hit Kelly Oubre in the head with his elbow. That's rich, considering the Golden State Warriors forward is notorious for injuring other players with his flailing legs.
6. "That's not why I'm an impossible cover." - Isaiah Thomas
Bulls coach Fred Hoiberg accused Thomas of committing carrying violations "on every possession," saying that's why he's impossible to guard. Boston's high-scoring All-Star agreed he's impossible to contain, but not for the reason Hoiberg cited.
5. "Pray." - Gregg Popovich
Asked how his team can topple the undefeated Warriors in the West finals, the Spurs coach pointed to divine intervention.
4. "If we had LeBron on our team, too, we would have won." - DeMar DeRozan
DeRozan summed up how the Cleveland Cavaliers knocked his Toronto Raptors out of the postseason for the second straight year.
3. "He's not about that life, so he's calming down." - Jimmy Butler
Butler got into a skirmish with Marcus Smart, earning them both technical fouls. The Chicago Bulls superstar indicated postgame it was the first time he's clashed with the Celtics guard ... and the last, because he's "the wrong guy" to mess with.
2. "If she had some red wine I definitely would have taken a sip." - LeBron James
James clowned Toronto throughout their East semifinals series, but one of the most memorable instances came in Game 1 when he grabbed a beer and pretended to drink it. The Cavs icon suggested there wouldn't have been any pretending if it were wine. Poor Raps.
1. "Take that for data!" - David Fizdale
The Memphis Grizzlies head coach became an instant fan favorite thanks to his epic rant following a Game 2 loss to the San Antonio Spurs. Fizdale admitted he's not a "numbers guy" before dropping several stats to depict how his club got "rooked" by the refs and their poor officiating.
