Pierce pulling for Boston over Washington: 'I'm a Celtic at heart'

Chris Humphreys / USA TODAY Sports

Paul Pierce will forever bleed green.

The Truth recently wrapped up his 19-year Hall of Fame-worthy career when his Los Angeles Clippers fell to the Utah Jazz in the opening round.

Now enjoying the early days of retirement, the 39-year-old is watching basketball as an outsider. With one semifinal series remaining between the Boston Celtics and Washington Wizards, Pierce was asked for whom he's rooting.

He didn't say outright which team he wants to advance, having suited up for both.

"I'm a Celtic at heart," he offered Thursday to TMZ Sports.

That answer comes as little surprise as he played the majority (15 years) and best stretch of his career with the C's. He won his only championship in 2008 in Beantown and was named Finals MVP. The Celtics plan to retire the 10-time All-Star's No. 34.

Boston leads the series 3-2 and has a chance to close it out on the road Friday night.

The Oakland native was also asked to chime in on the MVP race following James Harden's poor showing in Game 6 as his Houston Rockets were eliminated by the San Antonio Spurs.

"Harden is an excellent player," Pierce said. "Harden is one of the greatest. Never ask me about a California guy, I'm always going to back him. I represent Harden, (Russell) Westbrook, all the guys from L.A., Paul George.

"I give (the MVP award) to Harden and Westbrook, though. I represent the California guys, man."
