Cavaliers' Kay Felder: Assigned to D-League

Felder was assigned to the D-League's Canton Charge on Friday.

Analysis:

The rookie point guard has appeared in 36 games for the Cavaliers this season and is averaging 4.1 points in 9.6 minutes per game, but he's mostly played out of necessity, as the team's lack of depth behind starting point guard Kyrie Irving has forced Felder into more run with the second unit than the organization probably intended. It appears that the Cavaliers may soon be less reliant on Felder, however, as the team is believed to be the frontrunner to sign veteran point guard Deron Williams, who was waived by the Mavericks on Thursday. If Williams indeed clears waivers and latches on with the Cavaliers as their primary backup point guard, Felder could end up seeing extended time at the D-League level over the final month and a half of the regular season.
