A day after it was announced that the Memphis Grizzlies' partnership with the Iowa Energy was ending, the Grizzlies revealed their intention to purchase a D-League expansion team that will begin play next season in suburban Memphis.

The new team will bring the D-League to 23 franchises in 2017-18. It will play its 24 home games at the 8,400-seat Landers Center, located 20 miles south of Memphis in Southaven, Mississippi.

The Minnesota Timberwolves announced the purchase of the Iowa Energy on Monday.
