Channing Frye will be away from the Cleveland Cavaliers for an indefinite period after losing his mother, Karen, to cancer on Thursday, ESPN's Dave McMenamin reports.
She had reportedly been battling the disease for an extended time. Frye didn't travel to Toronto for Friday's game against the Raptors.
Frye emerged as a crucial piece for the Cavs during last season's playoffs, thriving as a stretch big off the bench and shooting 56.5 percent from 3-point range while helping his team to a title. He posted six points and four rebounds Tuesday in the Cavs' opening-night win over the New York Knicks.
