Brutal last-second foul call sinks Raptors in summer league
ESPN
The Toronto Raptors hadn't dropped a game in Las Vegas Summer League, and it looked as though their quarterfinal against the Minnesota Timberwolves on Sunday would be decided in overtime.
That was, until referee J.B. DeRosa whistled Raptors big man Yanick Moreira for a shooting foul on Wolves point guard Tyus Jones just before the buzzer.
The replay shows Moreira flew right past Jones on the shot contest, but Jones earned the call by clipping Moreira after kicking out his right leg. He hit the two free throws to punch the Wolves' ticket to the semis.
If summer league is a showcase for officials as well as players, this was a rough one for DeRosa, who is a college basketball referee and the son of former NBA ref Joe DeRosa.
