Heat, Ellington agree to reported 2-year, $12M deal
The Miami Heat officially announced the signing of shooting guard Wayne Ellington on Sunday.
Terms of the deal were not released by the club, but Ellington agreed to a two-year, $12 million-plus contract, league sources tell The Vertical's Adrian Wojnarowski.
Miami was in need of a shooting guard after losing Dwyane Wade to the Chicago Bulls earlier in the week and allowing Tyler Johnson to sign an offer sheet with the Brooklyn Nets.
Ellington spent last season with Brooklyn, averaging 7.7 points, 2.3 rebounds, 1.1 assists, and 0.6 steals while starting 41 of 76 games for the 21-win Nets.
While it remains to be seen whether Ellington will start for the Heat, the 28-year-old should see his fair share of minutes given the lack of depth in Miami's backcourt.
