With Kevin Durant announcing on the Players' Tribune that he will be joining the Golden State Warriors, the Dallas Mavericks will now move ahead and offer restricted free agent Harrison Barnes a reported four-year, $94-million offer sheet, according to ESPN's Marc Stein.
The offer will be made July 7 when the NBA's free-agent moratorium ends.
Golden State has the right to match it, but with Durant's arrival, that won't be the case.
The 24-year-old combo forward averaged a career-high 11.7 points in 66 appearances for the Warriors last season, along with 4.9 rebounds, 1.8 assists, and 0.6 steals with a player efficiency rating of 12.3.
However, he was an utter non-factor when Golden State blew its 3-1 series lead in the NBA Finals to the Cleveland Cavaliers, shooting a horrendous 15.6 percent from the field for an average of just five points in 27.9 minutes during the last three games.
Dallas has agreed to terms with two of their own free agents in Deron Williams (one year, $10 million) and Dwight Powell (four years, $37 million). Chandler Parsons is heading to the Memphis Grizzlies on a max deal, while Hassan Whiteside and Mike Conley - two players the franchise had their sights on - will be staying with their respective squads in the Miami Heat and Memphis Grizzlies.
