Mavs, Williams agree to 1-year, $10M deal

The Dallas Mavericks have agreed to a one-year, $10-million deal with free-agent point guard Deron Williams.

Williams opted out of his $5.6-million player option last month, so it appears the 31-year-old made a wise choice financially.

The Mavericks were in need of a starting point guard after missing out on Mike Conley earlier in free agency, and were left with few choices apart from Williams.

After getting cut by the Brooklyn Nets last offseason, Williams enjoyed a bounce-back year under head coach Rick Carlisle, averaging 14.1 points, 5.8 assists, and 2.9 rebounds on 41.4 percent shooting.

Williams is the second free-agent Dallas has opted to bring back, having reportedly agreed to a four-year deal with Dwight Powell earlier on Sunday.
