J.J. Barea will need knee surgery this offseason to repair his right medial meniscus, and will let his right groin fully heal, Earl K. Sneed of Mavs.com reports.
Barea will require arthroscopic right knee surgery this offseason, Earl K. Sneed of Mavs.com reports.
Analysis:
Barea didn't miss any time due to knee issues during the regular season or playoffs, so the knee scope is just a cleanup procedure for his meniscus that will likely require a little over a month of recovery time. The 31-year-old did pick up a right groin strain near the end of the regular season that limited him in the playoffs, but taking time off to rest should be enough to allow that injury to heal. He's hopeful to be recovered from both injuries in time to suit up for Puerto Rico in the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio.
