The Miami Heat aren't going away without a fight.

Jimmy Butler recorded a 35-point triple-double as the Heat defeated the Los Angeles Lakers 111-108 in Game 5 on Friday to extend the NBA Finals.

Heat sharpshooter Duncan Robinson contributed 26 points on 7-of-13 shooting from deep, while rookie Kendrick Nunn scored 14 off the bench.

Lakers star LeBron James, who went back and forth with Butler in the fourth quarter, finished with 40 points, 13 rebounds, seven assists, and three steals.

Los Angeles nearly took a decisive lead with seconds remaining in the contest when a driving James found a wide-open Danny Green at the top of the arc, but the shooting guard came up short on his attempt. Forward Markieff Morris secured the rebound but threw the ball out of bounds. Heat rookie Tyler Herro then converted two free throws to put the game out of reach.

With his performance, Butler joins James as the only players in Finals history to record multiple triple-doubles with at least 35 points, per Stathead. Butler had a similar 40-point showing Sunday to give Miami the win in Game 3.

"Every young player coming into this league should study footage on Jimmy Butler," Heat head coach Erik Spoelstra said postgame Friday, according to ESPN's Malika Andrews.

The Lakers, meanwhile, registered their first loss of the postseason while wearing their Black Mamba jerseys, which were designed in part by late franchise legend Kobe Bryant. The team decided Wednesday to switch to its alternates for Game 5 having gone 4-0 in them during its playoff run.

Los Angeles will again attempt to finish the series Sunday.
