NASCAR okay with corner side skirt flaring
The current in-race modification trend of flaring out a Cup car’s right side skirt appears to be okay, according to NASCAR.
According to NASCAR no rules are being broken with the corners of side skirts. All legal. They will continue to monitor what teams are doing

The flared skirt was first pointed out in the first race of the Chase at Chicagoland Speedway by Dale Earnhardt Jr.’s ex-manager Mike Hoag (who later stepped down from his job after the accusations).
According to Hoag, Brad Keselowski’s car was “cheated up a bit” after crew members bent out the right side skirt on the No. 2 car.
Since the Chicagoland race, more drivers have been following the trend.
It’s currently not clear what the modification advantage is, but NASCAR says right now it’s legal, and they’ll keep a close eye on it.
