Fedor Emelianenko targeting April bout
Fresh off his triumphant return to mixed martial arts, Fedor Emelianenko isn't resting on his laurels.
After four years away from the sport he once dominated, "The Last Emperor" ran roughshod over Jaideep Singh on Thursday, forcing the lanky Indian-Japanese kickboxer to tap to strikes at 3:02 of the opening stanza.
With his return now in the rear-view, Emelianenko is already planning his next fight.
"The next fight is scheduled for April," Emelianenko told rsport.ru, according to BloodyElobow.com's Karim Zidan. "In my opinion, it will be here in Japan, in cooperation with the company Rizin. Just know that the company is planning a tournament next August and is in talks with Bellator and other organizations. There is another chance of a joint project.
"For me it would be convenient to enter the ring in April - four months to relax a bit and with new team before preparing for the next battle."
Rizin has their next show planned for April 17, and although Emelianenko's initial pact with the promotion was a one-fight deal, a tentative agreement for a second bout is reportedly in place.
