Dana White paid Lyoto Machida a personal cheque for beating Tito Ortiz in 2008

In an interview with Big Boy of BigBoy TV, UFC president Dana White admitted that he paid Lyoto Machida a personal cheque for beating Tito Ortiz at UFC 84 six years ago, as reported by Bloody Elbow.

"The only time in 13 years - of all the fights we've ever done - [when] Lyoto Machida beat Tito Ortiz, I actually wrote him a personal cheque. The UFC paid him his show money, his win money and if he wins one of the bonuses, he gets bonused. I literally bonused him myself."

White's long-standing rivalry with Ortiz stemmed from a 2004 incident when Ortiz was upset about being pitted against then training partner Chuck Lidell, as per UFC.com. Ortiz was ultimately knocked out by Lidell in the second round of their bout at UFC 47.

White and Ortiz nearly fought each other in 2007 in what was going to be a pay-per-view boxing match, but was quashed after Ortiz didn't show up for the weigh-ins.

In 2008, White called Ortiz "one of the most dishonest human beings I've ever met," as per Yahoo. In 2013, Tito Ortiz compared working for Dana White to slavery.

Ortiz fought 27 times in the UFC, including 15 main event bouts and remains the No. 2 all-time UFC fighter in career earnings, according to Sports Illustrated.

In 2012, Ortiz was inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame prior to his final fight at UFC 148, which he lost to Forest Griffin via unanimous decision. Ortiz was 1-7-1 in his last nine fights.
