Report: Moreno-Albazi to co-headline Feb. 24 UFC event

Former two-time UFC flyweight champion Brandon Moreno is set to compete in his first non-title bout in over three years.

Moreno will return to action against Amir Albazi in the co-main event of UFC Fight Night on Feb. 24, sources told MMA Junkie. It's scheduled for five rounds.

The UFC hasn't announced a location for the card, but it's reportedly expected to take place in Mexico City. Moreno, the first Mexican-born champion in UFC history, is from Tijuana.

The 29-year-old is looking to get back on track after losing the flyweight belt in a back-and-forth thriller against Alexandre Pantoja at UFC 290 in July. Moreno is 2-1 in his last three outings, which includes regaining the title against Deiveson Figueiredo in January. "The Assassin Baby" first captured UFC gold by submitting Figueiredo in 2021.

Albazi enters the biggest matchup of his career riding a six-fight winning streak. The 30-year-old Iraqi fighter has gone 5-0 since joining the UFC in 2020. He's coming off a split-decision win over Kai Kara-France in a June main event.

Moreno and Albazi are ranked No. 1 and No. 3 in the 125-pound division, respectively. The winner will be in prime position for a title shot. Pantoja is scheduled to defend his belt for the first time against Brandon Royval at UFC 296 on Dec. 16.

The Feb. 24 Fight Night doesn't yet have a main event. If finalized, it will be the UFC's first show in Mexico since 2019. Moreno competed on the main card of that event and also headlined a Fight Night card in Mexico City in 2017.
