White: 'Silly' to talk about McGregor-Holloway rematch

Max Holloway believes a rematch with Conor McGregor could happen in the foreseeable future, but UFC president Dana White isn't ready to consider that a viable option.

"Conor's still hurt," White said at the UFC Fight Night post-fight press conference on Saturday. "To even talk about Conor is silly."

Holloway, a former featherweight champion, defeated Yair Rodriguez by unanimous decision in Saturday's main event, delivering a clear-cut candidate for "Fight of the Year."

Afterward, the Hawaiian fighter mentioned 145-pound titleholder Alexander Volkanovski, lightweight king Charles Oliveira, and McGregor as potential next opponents.

There's some bad blood between Holloway and McGregor, who fought each other in 2013, with the latter winning a decision. McGregor more recently trashed Holloway on social media ahead of the Rodriguez fight for calling himself the best boxer in the promotion.

However, the Irishman is still recovering from a broken leg, which he suffered in a trilogy bout with Dustin Poirier at UFC 264 in July.

White adds that Holloway's next fight will most likely be a featherweight title shot against Volkanovski, who owns two victories over "Blessed" from 2019 and 2020. Holloway has gone 2-0 since losing a split decision to Volkanovski in their rematch.
