One of the few remaining UFC fighters who also competed in Pride FC is almost ready to call it quits.
Heavyweight contender Alistair Overeem wrote on social media Tuesday that he plans to fight a "couple more" times before retiring from mixed martial arts.
The former title challenger, who's currently ranked No. 5 in the division, is scheduled to face Alexander Volkov in the UFC Fight Night main event on Feb. 6.
Overeem is riding a two-fight winning streak, and he refers to the latest chapter of his career as "one final run." The 40-year-old hopes to get another shot at the UFC heavyweight belt before his retirement. Stipe Miocic is the current champion.
Overeem, who challenged Miocic in 2016 but lost via first-round knockout, is one of four Pride FC veterans still on the UFC's roster. "The Demolition Man" competed in the now-defunct Japan-based promotion off and on from 2002 to 2007.
