Jones: 'Very strong possibility' I move to heavyweight in 2020

Jon Jones says his upcoming light heavyweight title defense against Dominick Reyes could be his last in the division.

Jones, who meets Reyes at UFC 247 on Feb. 8, believes there's a good chance he'll finally move to the heavyweight division next year.

"I think it's a very strong possibility," Jones said at the UFC 247 press conference Friday in Las Vegas.

"I've been wrestling my brother my whole life. I've been going with Andrei Arlovski, (Alistair) Overeem, all these big guys, my whole career, and I've always done well," Jones said. "At 240 (pounds), I move just as fast as I do at light heavyweight. My versatility, I realize, is not things that most heavyweights would do - spinning things, flying knees, things like that. I feel really good. I think the time is going to be really close. I wouldn't be surprised if it happened (in 2020)."

Jones said he tried to get a fight with UFC heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic a few months ago, but the promotion is instead targeting a trilogy bout between Miocic and Daniel Cormier.

"At the moment, I was so ready to go (to) heavyweight and stick my hands in some of those big fellas," Jones said.

Jones is currently ranked No. 1 on the UFC's pound-for-pound list. Fans have wanted to see the 32-year-old move up in weight for years since few fighters have been able to challenge him at 205 pounds.

In Jones' last fight, he defeated Thiago Santos via split decision at UFC 239 in July. That was the first time a judge had ever scored a fight against him. Jones' only official loss in MMA is a controversial disqualification against Matt Hamill in 2009 due to an illegal elbow.
