McGregor opens as heavy favorite in would-be MMA bout vs. Mayweather

To the surprise of no one, the opening odds of a would-be MMA bout between Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather lean heavily toward the former.

Jeff Sherman of the Westgate Las Vegas SuperBook has listed the UFC lightweight champ as a -1000 favorite to Mayweather's +650 underdog status for a date in the Octagon that's been teased on more than one occasion, but doesn't appear to be anywhere near fruition.

McGregor opened as a far heavier underdog for his August pro boxing debut opposite the since-retired Mayweather - one he lost via 10th-round TKO - but was listed as a 3-to-1 underdog by fight week.

While the Irishman has remained mum on his next move despite maintaining his desire to take the Octagon again, Mayweather has claimed he aims to obtain a license to compete in four-ounce gloves once he's put in six-to-eight months' worth of MMA training - with UFC president Dana White recently stating that a rematch between the two would have to go down under the promotion's banner.
