McGregor-Mayweather rematch only happens in MMA, says White

Dana White wouldn't say if Floyd Mayweather Jr. will make his Octagon debut in 2018 - after the former boxing champion teased a move to MMA via social media - but he did confirm the soon-to-be 41-year-old will need to switch sports if he wants another crack at Conor McGregor.

The promotion president joined "UFC Tonight" on Wednesday to discuss several topics and commented on the recent exchanges between McGregor and Mayweather.

"Obviously, the only way making that fight again makes any sense is if he comes over to the Octagon," White said, according to MMA Fighting's Dave Doyle. "We went over and boxed him, the UFC and Conor McGregor.

"And now it’s time for him to reciprocate and come fight in the Octagon."

Before the blockbuster fight between the two headliners in August, Mayweather said in several press appearances that he would be willing to come to MMA after the boxing contest, though most assumed he was attempting to build hype for the first bout.
