Strawweight title bout, Gonzalez's debut among fights set for Invicta FC 28
Invicta FC is bringing a strawweight title bout to Utah.
Brazilians Janaisa Morandin and Virna Jandiroba will tangle for the vacant 115-pound crown when the all-female outfit takes Salt Lake City's Union Event Center for Invicta FC 28 on March 24, the promotion announced Tuesday.
The 23-year-old Morandin has won all but one of her 11 pro bouts. The lone blemish was a unanimous decision loss in her promotional debut to former champ Livia Renata Souza. She most recently got back in the win column with a lopsided verdict over Kinberly Novaes at Invicta FC 26 in December.
Jandiroba, 29, made her first walk to the Invicta cage the same night Morandin beat Novaes, submitting Amy Montenegro in under three minutes. Ten of the undefeated Brazilian's dozen victories have come by tapout.
In the strawweight co-headliner, highly touted prospect and winner of three straight Mizuki Inoue ends an injury-riddled 20-month layoff opposite UFC alum Milana Dudieva, who'll look to snap a four-fight skid.
Also gracing the bill is Pearl Gonzalez, who meets unbeaten strawweight Kali Robbins after falling to Cynthia Calvillo and Poliana Botelho at UFC 210 and 216, respectively.
The current state of the card is as follows:
- Strawweight title bout: Janaisa Morandin vs. Virna Jandiroba
- Strawweight bout: Mizuki Inoue vs. Milana Dudieva
- Flyweight bout: DeAnna Bennett vs. Karina Rodriguez
- Strawweight bout: Kali Robbins vs. Pearl Gonzalez
- Strawweight bout: Minna Grusander vs. Fernanda Priscila
- Strawweight bout: Kal Schwartz vs. Kay Hansen
- Flyweight bout: Kerri Kenneson vs. Chelsea Chandler
- Atomweight bout: Jillian DeCoursey vs. Rebekah Levine
