Emmett stuns Lamas with blistering left-hook KO in 1st round

A short-notice booking brought out the best in Josh Emmett.

Fighting in Jose Aldo's stead on less than three weeks' notice, the unranked underdog put Ricardo Lamas to sleep with a perfectly timed counter left hook in the first round of UFC on FOX 26's co-main event on Saturday.

The Team Alpha Male product extended his win streak to two with the jaw-dropping stoppage - his first in five fights under the UFC banner - but won't be eligible to win a postfight bonus after missing the featherweight limit by 2.5 pounds at the previous day's weigh-in.

Emmett promptly took the center of the cage and let hooks fly while Lamas scored primarily with kicks from the outside. The late fill-in landed little of substance for the bulk of the exchanges until he caught Lamas out of position on a kick with the monster left hook that put his foe's lights out just 4:33 into the contest.

The 35-year-old Lamas saw a two-fight stoppage streak halted and his UFC record drop to 9-4 in his third straight bout against a short-notice opponent. He's now succumbed to strikes in four of his six career defeats.
