UFC light heavyweight Volkan Oezdemir was arrested Saturday in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and charged with aggravated battery causing bodily harm or disability, according to MMA Junkie, citing his arrest record.
Florida state statute declares that a person committing Oezdemir's charge, "intentionally or knowingly causes great bodily harm, permanent disability, or permanent disfigurement."
Oezdemir was named by UFC light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier as his next preferred challenger in September, but the UFC has yet to comment on the arrest and it remains to be seen how the charge will affect Oezdemir's chances at getting a title shot.
The 28-year-old is being held on $10,000 bond, and his release is currently pending.
