Nunes-Shevchenko II re-booked for UFC 215

Amanda Nunes and Valentina Shevchenko will fight again, though in a slightly less prestigious position than their last scheduled meeting.

A women's bantamweight title bout between the reigning champion Nunes and Shevchenko has been re-booked for the co-main event of UFC 215 in Edmonton, Alberta on Sept. 9, the promotion announced Thursday.

The bout was first reported by Brazil's Combate.

Nunes defeated Shevchenko by unanimous decision at UFC 196 and was set to defend the 135-lb belt against her in the main event of UFC 213 earlier this month. Chronic sinusitis symptoms forced Nunes to visit the hospital the morning of the fight, leading to her last-minute withdrawal from the contest.

Because Nunes was allegedly cleared by doctors to compete, UFC president Dana White vowed that the Nunes-Shevchenko bout would not headline again and he's sticking to his word.

UFC 215 will instead be headlined by a flyweight title fight between champion Demetrious Johnson and Ray Borg.

Nunes has been a force of nature for the past three years, winning her past five including first-round finishes of Ronda Rousey, Miesha Tate, and Sara McMann. "The Lioness" is 14-4 in her career with all but one of her wins coming by way of knockout or submission.

Since losing to Nunes last March, Shevchenko picked up two huge wins over former champion Holly Holm and top-10 contender Julianna Pena. She is 3-1 in UFC competition and 14-2 overall.
