San Jose Earthquakes sign Simon Dawkins as Designated Player
The San Jose Earthquakes have signed Jamaican international forward Simon Dawkins to a Designated Player contract, the club announced Wednesday.
Dawkins, who most recently played for Derby County in the English Championship, spent time with the Earthquakes on loan for two seasons back in 2011 and 2012. He returns on a permanent deal, though terms of the contract were not disclosed.
"We're delighted to welcome Simon back to San Jose," club general manager John Doyle said in a statement. He added, "Simon is also (a) proven player in Major League Soccer and helped the club win the Supporters' Shield in 2012. He will be a key part of our attack."

Dawkins began his playing career in 2004 with English outfit Tottenham, and spent 10 years with the club, including spells on loan at Aston Villa, Derby County, and the Earthquakes. The 28-year-old has made 20 international appearances for Jamaica, too.
Dawkins scored 14 goals in 53 appearances during his time with the Earthquakes in MLS.
