D.C. United ousted from playoffs after feeble 2nd-leg attempt in New York
D.C. United tried, but failed miserably in overturning a 1-0 deficit in the second leg of the Eastern Conference semifinal series against the New York Red Bulls, succumbing to yet another listless 1-0 loss at Red Bull Arena and elimination from the postseason.
Ben Olsen's side could barely muster a shot on target throughout both matches, leaving the Red Bulls with little onus to attack. A late goal by Bradley Wright-Phillips secured the narrow victory, one that would have been worse if not for the efforts of D.C. goalkeeper Bill Hamid.
It's official: D.C. United's 1st shot on goal in 2 legs vs Red Bulls comes after 145 minutes.

The Red Bulls walk away 2-0 winners on aggregate in this semifinal series and now move into the Eastern Conference final where they will take on either the Montreal Impact or Columbus Crew. The two teams will settle their second leg at MAPFRE Stadium, where Montreal holds a 2-1 lead from the first-leg fixture at Stade Saputo.
