Panama international Henriquez shot and killed

Police in Panama City confirmed Saturday that Panama international Amilcar Henriquez has been killed in a shooting in the country's Colon province.

The news was confirmed by Didacio Camargo, press chief for the country's National Police, courtesy of USA Today.

The 33-year-old was shot several times exiting his home Saturday and was rushed to hospital where he was pronounced dead. Two other people were wounded in the shooting.

Henriquez, who plied his trade with local club C.D. Arabe Unido, made 75 appearances for the national team, last playing 20 minutes in a 2018 World Cup qualifying match against the United States that ended 1-1. The defensive midfielder made his Panama debut during the 2005 UNCAF Nations Cup against El Salvador. He represented his country in 15 World Cup qualifying matches and participated in three CONCACAF Gold Cups.

Panamanian president Juan Carlos Varela took to Twitter to condemn the slaying, adding that security forces in Colon have been mobilized to find those responsible.
