Watch: Chara scores on give-and-go counterattack against LA Galaxy
Jaime Valdez-USA TODAY Sports
The give-and-go is a classic move, one that the LA Galaxy defenders were reminded of at the hands of the Portland Timbers, as Diego Chara and Diego Valeri combined on a counterattack to open the scoring at the StubHub Center Sunday evening.
Chara and Valeri found themselves clean through with only youngster Nathan Smith blocking their way to goal. Chara plucked out a crossed past with a header to Valeri, streaking to his left, then set himself up with an overlapping run into the area. Valeri spotted his teammate, coolly sent the pass over, and Chara cleaned it up with little fuss, to Clement Diop's expense.
It's a classic for a reason - it works.
