Whitecaps acquire Sheanon Williams from Dynamo
The Vancouver Whitecaps have acquired right full-back Sheanon Williams from the Houston Dynamo in exchange for general allocation money, though specific terms of the trade were not disclosed as per league policy.
The seven-year MLS veteran has made 192 appearances, where he has managed to record 22 assists; he joins a Whitecaps team looking to bolster its defensive ranks ahead of the 2017 season.
"Sheanon is an athletic, solid defender with an attacking mind," Whitecaps head coach Carl Robinson said in a club-issued statement. "Since joining the league back in 2010, Sheanon has been a regular starter and has a great reputation throughout the league as someone with outstanding character. We are excited to welcome him to our locker room."
Williams spent the last year and a half with the Dynamo, having originally joined the club out of the Philadelphia Union where he first started in 2010.
"I'm excited for the new opportunity," Williams said. "I can't wait to join up with the club and get things moving. We have a couple of months, and I'll be ready to get a good start to my time in Vancouver in the new year."
