Portland Timbers sign goalkeeper Chris Konopka
The Portland Timbers announced Thursday the club has signed former Toronto FC goalkeeper Chris Konopka, though terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Konopka, 31, joins the Timbers after the team sold first-choice goalkeeper Adam Kwarasey to Norwegian outfit Rosenborg earlier in the month. Konopka last played with Toronto, featuring for 21 starts in 2015 as he shared the role with Joe Bendik, but the two were both released ahead of the 2016 season.
He then joined Ross County in the Scottish Premiership, but will return to MLS just a few short months later.
Konopka will compete with New Zealand international Jake Gleeson for a starting spot in Caleb Porter's side. Gleeson has started 15 of the Timbers' last 16 matches, recording three clean sheets.
