Columbus Crew acquire Dilly Duka
Dilly Duka is heading back to the Columbus Crew.
The 26-year-old midfielder returns to his old club by way of the Montreal Impact after the Crew traded Targeted Allocation Money, General Allocation Money, and a 2017 second round draft pick for the "Right of First Refusal" on Duka's contract.
Duka, who was traded from the Crew to the Chicago Fire in 2013, then to the Montreal Impact in 2014, chose not to return to Major League Soccer at the top of the 2016 season in order to explore options abroad.
As such, the Impact retained the rights to Duka should he return and traded those rights to the Crew as head coach Gregg Berhalter's side reels from an extended list of injuries in midfield.
"We are excited to welcome Dilly back to Columbus Crew SC," Berhalter said in a statement on the Crew's official website. "Dilly is a dynamic, offensive player who can play a number of positions and we look forward to seeing him adapt to our style of play."
Duka made 45 league appearances with the Crew over three seasons between 2010 and 2012, scoring two goals in 2011.
