Ola Kamara named MLS Player of the Week after hat-trick heroics vs. RSL
Norwegian forward Ola Kamara joined the Columbus Crew at exactly the right time, as star striker Kei Kamara (no relation) managed to talk his way right out of the starting lineup and the team outright not halfway through the 2016 season.
Kei, who co-led the league in scoring last season with 22 goals, was rather cross with teammate Federico Higuain after the Argentine playmaker denied him a chance at completing his hat- rick in a 4-4 draw against the Montreal Impact on May 8.
Kei had yet to score a hat trick in Columbus yellow, nor had any player for the club since 2004. Kei's public dressing down of Higuain forced the Crew's hand though and Kei was traded to the New England Revolution, leaving a gaping hole up top in Gregg Berhalter's lineup.
Enter Ola Kamara.
In the ultimate show of irony, the Norwegian international took all of three games to do what Kei never could, scoring all three goals in a 3-2 win over Real Salt Lake last Saturday.
For those efforts, Ola Kamara has been named MLS Player of the Week for Week 13. Check out all three goals:
