Vancouver Whitecaps forward Octavio Rivero started the match against New York City FC in fine form, scoring a goal just 37 seconds in to give his team a 1-0 lead.
But 25 minutes later, Rivero went down with an injury, and was replaced by Blas Perez. The club soon confirmed the Uruguayan suffered a sprained ankle.
In the moments that followed, the Whitecaps conceded a pair of goals to NYCFC star David Villa, compounding their misery at Yankee Stadium.
