Mix Diskerud revels in player poll 'overrated' label
Mix Diskerud doesn't put much stock into what others say about him.
The New York City FC midfielder was voted the league's most overrated player in an anonymous 123-player poll conducted by ESPN FC. He was joined by the likes of his teammates Andrea Pirlo and Frank Lampard, and many of the league's big-money signings including Jozy Altidore, Michael Bradley, and Steven Gerrard.
Rather than being hurt by what his fellow players had to say about him and his $750,000 salary from 2015, Diskerud took the label as a compliment, while also admitting there might be some truth to it.
"If you look at that list, it's almost an honor to be with those guys," Diskerud told reporters, according to the MLS website. "It's just quality players, and every day of the week I'd like to be on a list with them.
"Yeah, I am overrated, but the top 10 percent of the guys on the income list in MLS you can say are, if you compare it to the average player."
For all that criticism, Diskerud has one goal and two assists in three games. Not too shabby.
