The Miami Marlins reportedly avoided arbitration with their young ace Jose Fernandez on Friday, agreeing to a $2.8-million deal, a source told Yahoo Sports' Jeff Passan.
Fernandez, 23, who has been frequently mentioned in trade talks throughout the offseason, started 11 games for the Marlins in 2015 after a return from Tommy John surgery.
The former first-round pick posted a 2.92 ERA to go along with his 6-1 record, which included a WHIP of 1.16 across 64 2/3 innings pitched.
Fernandez owns a lifetime record of 22-9 with an ERA of 2.40 across 47 career starts.
MLB Trade Rumors projected him to make $2.2 million.
Miami also reached agreements with pitchers Tom Koehler, Carter Capps, A.J. Ramos, and David Phelps, as well as shortstop Adeiny Hechavarria, reports Joe Frisaro of MLB.com.
