New-look 'Wrigley Rooftops' available for rent to watch Cubs
The rooftops surrounding Wrigley Field are now available for rent, but not in the fashion they once were.
On Wednesday, a new website - Wrigley Rooftops - launched, which allows Chicago Cubs' fans the opportunity to view the iconic ivy of Wrigley Field from specialty suites atop the roofs on Sheffield and Waveland Avenues surrounding the stadium.
The website, owned by the Ricketts family - also owners of the Cubs - offers 10 rooftops with views of the field. Each rooftop is available for rent and can host up to 200 people, according to the website.
The rooftops have been in the neighborhood around the stadium since 1914, offering fans a free view of games until the 1980s, when building managers began to charge admission for the unique views from across the street.
After going through many court cases relating to their use, the Cubs themselves began purchasing some of the rooftop properties, and by the end of the 2015 season, owned 12 of the 15 available venues.
