Report: Pirates' Alvarez seeking trade
Pedro Alvarez's days in Pittsburgh may be numbered.
The Pirates first baseman believes this offseason is the right time for a trade, reports CBS Sports' Jon Heyman.
Pittsburgh is already rumored to be shopping second baseman Neil Walker and closer Mark Melancon this fall, and the heavy-hitting Alvarez's trade value has rebounded following his 27-homer output in 2015.
Alvarez, who has spent his entire six-year career in Pittsburgh, didn't live up to expectations defensively after transitioning to first base, and would likely be a better fit as a designated hitter on an American League squad.
Heyman speculates the Baltimore Orioles, who lost slugging first baseman Chris Davis to free agency, could be a potential trade partner for the Pirates.
The 28-year-old hit .243/.318/.468 with 77 RBIs in 150 contests last season.
