With their season on the line, the Los Angeles Angels are turning to their ace on short rest.

Right-hander Garrett Richards will make his first career on start on three days' rest Sunday in a crucial showdown with the Texas Rangers.

"If that game (Sunday) means anything, I'll be ready to go," Richards said earlier this week.

The fireballer has had the Rangers' number this season, posting a 3-0 record with a 2.18 ERA in three starts against Texas.

Cole Hamels will oppose Richards in the regular-season finale.

The Angels guaranteed themselves a meaningful 162nd game with a dramatic come-from-behind 11-10 victory over the Rangers on Saturday.
