The St. Louis Cardinals squandered an opportunity to clinch their third consecutive National League Central title earlier Wednesday, but they're coming out swinging in the back half of a doubleheader with the Pittsburgh Pirates.
With the Cardinals leading 2-0 in the top of the third inning, Jason Heyward crushed a grand slam to right-center field to increase the lead to 6-0.

Pittsburgh prevailed 8-2 in the first game of the twin bill, so the Cardinals' magic number is stuck on two entering the nightcap. St. Louis can reduce that number to zero with a win over the second-place Pirates.
