McCutchen rests Thursday with tight Achilles
Pittsburgh Pirates center fielder Andrew McCutchen received a day of rest for Thursday's finale against the Milwaukee Brewers to nurse a sore left Achilles.
"I've been a little sore, hobbling around a bit, not my knee, just have a tight Achilles," McCutchen told the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review's Travis Sawchik.
McCutchen has been bothered by the injury on and off for the past week, but manager Clint Hurdle believes the five-time All-Star will return to the lineup Friday for the series opener with the St. Louis Cardinals.
The 2013 National League MVP is fresh off earning Player of the Month honors for August after hitting .348/.470/.609 with five homers and 19 RBIs during the dog days of summer.
Starling Marte started in center field for the Pirates on Thursday, with Josh Harrison covering left-field duties.
