Yankees place Mason Williams on 15-day DL with shoulder inflammation
The New York Yankees placed outfielder Mason Williams on the 15-day disabled list with shoulder inflammation Sunday morning, barely two weeks after promoting the 23-year-old to take over for injured center fielder Jacoby Ellsbury.
Williams, a fourth-round pick in 2010, underwent an MRI on Saturday after jamming his shoulder while diving into first base on a pickoff attempt the evening prior, a 7-2 victory over the Detroit Tigers.
"It just feels tired,'' Williams told ESPN's Wallace Matthews. "It feels like I have a heavy arm. Like my arm's a thousand pounds. Besides that it's pretty good.''
Through eight games with the Yankees, Williams compiled a .286/.318/.571 line with one home run and four doubles while striking out just three times in 22 plate appearances. In a corresponding move, the Yankees recalled Ramon Flores from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
