Mets' Harvey could be dealing with dead arm
New York Mets ace Matt Harvey could be going through a dead arm phase.
The news isn't much of a shock, given Harvey is coming off Tommy John surgery. Either way, it's not an ideal reality for a club looking to climb back atop the NL East.
"I have not talked to Matt yet, but it looks like he might be going through some of that dead arm stuff that sometimes happens," manager Terry Collins said.
The skipper also added that Thursday's day off will help Harvey in the long run and he's not expected to miss his Friday start.
"This might help him to have an extra day to get him back on track," Collins said. "He's going to pitch Friday with five days rest, be ready to go."
Harvey suffered through the shortest outing of his career Saturday against the Pittsburgh Pirates, surrendering a personal-high seven runs on six hits over just four innings of work.
"Everything was kind of all over the place," Harvey told reporters after the 8-2 loss. "I wasn't locating, obviously. My arm feels fine, my body feels fine. It was one of those days where if I tried to spin it, it was over the middle. If I tried to throw a fastball in, it was away and vice versa. It's just a pretty terrible outing."
