Dodgers' McCarthy lifted vs. Padres with right elbow tightness, will undergo MRI on Monday
Los Angeles Dodgers right-hander Brandon McCarthy was removed from Saturday's contest against the San Diego Padres with right elbow tightness following five-plus shaky inning.
After yielding five runs through the first five innings of Saturday's contest, McCarthy took the mound in the bottom of the sixth and promptly served up a leadoff home run to Justin Upton. McCarthy waved to the dugout immediately following the at-bat, prompting a visit from manager Don Mattingly and a team trainer, and left the game moments later shaking his right arm.
McCarthy, who signed a four-year deal with the Dodgers this winter, served up three home runs before leaving Saturday's game and has allowed nine round-trippers in 23 innings this season.
The 31-year-old was replaced by right-hander Sergio Santos.
McCarthy didn't seem overly optimistic about the injury following the game, stating he'll undergo an MRI on Monday.
McCarthy said elbow bothered him over last week. Said he should have left game in 2nd inning.
