Cubs apologize for 'extreme' bathroom lines at Wrigley Field: 'We missed the mark'

The 2015 season began less than 24 hours ago and the Chicago Cubs are already issuing apologies.

While the Cubs slogged through an uninspired performance against the St. Louis Cardinals in Sunday's season opener, fans at Wrigley Field were forced to wait in abnormally long lines to use the bathroom after two restrooms in the upper deck went down.

On Monday, a Cubs spokesman offered a formal apology to the 35,000 fans in attendance, some of whom resorted to urinating in empty cups during Sunday's 3-0 loss.

“Opening Day at Wrigley Field has always brought challenges with wait times and tonight was particularly extreme,” Julian Green said in a statement after the game.

After many fans voiced their displeasure on social media, Green conceded that the organization was "simply not prepared to handle guests during peak periods."

"We want to apologize to our fans for the inconvenience tonight," he added. "Moving forward we plan to supplement the existing restrooms with additional portable units and will continue to monitor wait times."
