Orioles' Tillman lands Opening Day start
For a second consecutive season, the Baltimore Orioles will open the regular season with Chris Tillman on the mound.
Orioles manager Buck Showalter confirmed Tuesday that Tillman, an All-Star in 2013, will get the ball April 6 against the Tampa Bay Rays at Tropicana Field. Though the rotation has not yet been finalized, both Wei-Yin Chen and Miguel Gonzalez will pitch in the season's inaugural series.
Tillman, meanwhile, hurled a quality start on Opening Day in 2014, allowing one run on seven hits and one walk while striking out four over five innings against the Boston Red Sox at Camden Yards. The 26-year-old finished the campaign with a 3.34 ERA (114 ERA+) over 34 starts, though he finished with the 21st-lowest strikeout rate among baseball's 88 qualified starters.
