The Arizona Diamondbacks avoided arbitration with one of their major offseason acquisitions by agreeing to a one-year, $4.275-million deal with right-hander Jeremy Hellickson on Friday, according to Jon Heyman of CBS Sports.
Hellickson - who was acquired from the Tampa Bay Rays in November - missed a considerable part of the 2014 campaign after undergoing elbow surgery in February. Over 13 starts with the Rays, he crafted a 4.52 ERA with a 1.45 WHIP while allowing 71 hits and eight home runs in 63 2/3 innings.
"I'm definitely excited to get over there to Arizona and get back to the pitcher I was," Hellickson said shortly after being acquired by the Diamondbacks.
