Joe Camporeale-USA TODAY Sports / Reuters

The Arizona Diamondbacks and shortstop Cliff Pennington have avoided arbitration, agreeing on a one-year, $3.275-million contract, according to ESPN's Jerry Crasnick.

Pennington played in 68 games for the snakes in 2014, slashing .254/.340/.350 with two home runs. He appeared in 23 games at short, 18 at second base and eight at third base.

The former Oakland Athletics infielder was in his third arbitration-eligible year after making $3.25 million last season.
